AUSTIN – State Representative Trent Ashby (R-Lufkin) has been selected to serve on both the House Committee on Public Education and the House Committee on Defense & Veterans Affairs during the 86th Legislative Session. This will be the first time Ashby has served on either committee.
“I’m honored to have a seat at the table on two committees that are so important to my district and to our state,” said Ashby about his committee assignments. “The Texas House has made it very clear that school finance reform and property tax relief will be our top priority this session, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to serve on the committee that will lead the charge in addressing these critically important issues.”
Ashby’s second committee assignment, the House Committee on Defense & Veterans Affairs, has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to defense, emergency preparedness, and veterans issues.
“I’m really looking forward to serving on the Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee,” said Ashby of his new committee. “Ensuring the safety and security of our state through emergency preparedness and terrorism defense, and taking care of the brave men and women who have selflessly put themselves in harms way for our safety, is critical to the well-being of our state.”
Representative Ashby is in his fourth term as a member of the Texas House of Representatives. Currently, Ashby is a member of the Public Education Committee, as well as the House Committees on Defense & Veterans Affairs.
